| New Years Day dinner, cuddles with the cat and of course.. my very own Gingey Bites apron! |
My Dad, step-mum, Nanna & step-sister have just left, having joined us for dinner, the hubby is at the football and I'm sat with a glass of prosecco and a sleepy cat feeling very contemplative. Ending 2012 on such a high, I have only high hopes for the year ahead.
On Thursday I start a new job. The commute will be longer than I've done before and I'll be leaving home earlier and getting back later. How will this affect our diet? Will I have time to cook or will we fall into the trap eating ready made meals and takeaways?
With this in mind, I've come up with my foodie new years resolutions:
Plan ahead
Work out what you have in and what you need for the week ahead. This will help minimise wastage and help you stick to budget!Batch cook
This is something I already do and intend to do more of. By batch cooking you can ensure you have something healthy already ready to go in the fridge or freezer for late nights and busy days.Get healthy
After a wedding, honeymoon and festive period all squeezed into the last 3 months, its time to get healthy! Too much cake, cheese and alcohol have left me feeling a bit chubby! Time to ditch the booze and cut back on the snacksPacked lunches
Another way to help stick to budget and avoid the canteen chips! On a broader note, doing Gingey Bites has made me more determined than ever to cook well. I'll be challenging myself to cook more complex dishes in the future - keep your eye out for floppy souffles, grainy mousses and charred who knows whats!!
Over and Out!

A very realistic and reasonable plan Alex, I like the idea of packed lunch and batch cooking, it’s the only way we ‘home chefs’ can survive the hustle and bustle of the days ahead.
