Teriyaki Chicken Meatballs with Rice & Greens

Yum
Just a quick one today - although it may seem odd to have chicken meatballs, this teriyaki dish is really tasty. It takes a bit of time to prepare but because it uses a cheaper cut of chicken and lots of store cupboard ingredients, its a good one for the end of the month. I found it in an old copy of Good Food magazine but for ease, you can find it online here.

Underground Cookery School, London

Yum
Last week I popped down to the big smoke for an evening of wine, cooking and fun at the Underground Cookery School in central London. Not quite sure what to expect, Emily from Recipes & Reviews and I joined 18 other food and lifestyle bloggers from around the UK to find out more.

Oakley Grange Farm Cafe & Deli

Yum
I recently discovered Oakley Grange Organic Farm Cafe, nestled between Hathern and Shepshed, near Loughborough. A family run working farm, Oakley Grange has existed for over 200 years and more recently, runs as fully organic. They opened the deli and cafe a couple of years ago and since then, its gone from strength to strength.

Review: The Red Lion, Great Bowden

Yum
The Red Lion in the pretty village of Great Bowden is a great find. Decorated with modern chunky frames, silver stags heads and minimalist scrubbed down floors, it has the feel of a traditional pub but with a trendy edge. I've never eaten here at night - I've been told its very good and I can imagine it is having tasted their lunch time offering. So, without further hesitation, here's my lunchtime review.

Cheap as Chips & Very Speedy Tomato Soup

Yum
This is the simplest and quickest soup to make in the world. Its not going to set your tastebuds on fire but it'll do nicely for office lunches and whats better, it won't break the bank. In fact, it'll do the opposite as its cheap as chips and freezes well too so why not make a big batch?

Chorizo-style Sausage & Rigatoni Bake

Yum
I've always scoffed at 'pasta bakes' - they are the stuff of jars and preservatives...aren't they? Perhaps its because its something we never had at home growing up - but did have at friends houses. My mum is a great cook and my understanding of good food (aka 12 yr old snobbery!) started early.

Anyway, as an adult, I decided to have a bash at making one and after a few attempts and tweaks along the way, last week I finally perfected that infamous dish - the pasta bake!

Foodie Valentines Gift Ideas

Yum
With less than a week to go until the big L-O-V-E day spectacular, I thought I’d have a little peruse and see what gifts are around for foodie lovers. Lets be honest, most of us grew out of oversized teddy bears clutching messages of I love you when were 15. Last year the hubby got me a pack of steaks and a griddle pan. Practical and appreciated but not overly romantic. Flowers and chocolates are nice but personally, I’m angling for something a bit classier this year.

Meal Planning Monday

Yum
We were away this weekend, lots of food and lots of drink.. And lots of pennies spent.

Meal planning is so important for two reasons, firstly it helps you not to waste anything as you can plan meals with things on the turn for the start of the week! Secondly it helps with the budget! Sometimes you look in the cupboard and think there's nothing in but actually, with careful planning, there are often meals to pull together without having to nip to the shops!

Anyway enough preaching, you know I love to meal plan so here's what we have coming up this week!

Monday
The hubby won't like it but salad (with beetroot and butternut squash) and grilled chicken breasts

Tuesday
Pan fried fish with rice and steamed veg. Some kind of sauce, maybe just lemon buttery goodness

Wednesday
Oven roasted chorizo style sausages with peppers, onions and potatoes

Thursday
Out with parents for curry!

Friday
Strirfried pork (mince) with garlic, ginger and chilli. With noodles.

Saturday
Homemade pizzas - we had some nice chorizo slices saved but we ate them already so looking in the cupboards, we're going for tuna, olives and capers.

Sunday
Family round for roast dinner - meat to be decided as I'll need to shop for this one!

Meal Planning Monday
As usual, I'm joining in with Mrs M's Meal Planning Monday link up. You can find lots of ideas and inspiration there so go and check it out!

Also, here are a couple of my old Meal Planning Monday entries here and here.

What are you planning this week? Anything special or just using up leftovers and trying to save money? Let me know!
