National Burger Day - Burgers around the East Midlands

This Thursday is National Burger Day! There is no excuse - we must all go out and stuff ourselves silly with these naughty treats. To celebrate, here's my round up of what I think are the best places to eat burger in the East Midlands....

Crafty Burger, St Martins Square, Leicester

Oh yes... behold... the mighty Krispie Klucker -  Buttermilk chicken, spiced Rice Krispie crumb, 'slaw, BBQ sauce & mayoI'm usually a beefy burger kind of girl but by god this ones good. Crafty are open Thurs / Fri / Sat nights from 6pm so book ahead to get a table. Read my review to get a full taste of whats on offer!

The Paget Arms, Paget Street, Loughborough

Hidden in the student 'golden triangle' in Loughborough, The Paget has a great 'burgers n brews' menu. Go straight for their classic burger - 6oz beef patty with Red Leicester cheese, caramelised onions, burger relish & pickles. You can't go wrong! See what I thought here.

Byron Hamburgers, Highcross, Leicester

My love of Byron is well documented - it's a shining star in the homogenised misery of the Highcross's chain food collective.  Since reviewing the opening of Byron, I've eaten there a few more times (ahem) and have always loved it. Great news for Derby - there is now one there too, in the INTU centre! Yippee for the Midlands!

The White Horse, Quorn

The food here is good quality pub grub but nothing more. Sometimes that's all you want though - and the one thing they do really well is their burgers. Perfect to kick start an afternoon of drinking. If you're feeling like a challenge, try their Beef & Chicken Gut Buster - 8oz Beef Burger topped with a Cajun Chicken Breast, Pulled Pork, Onion Rings, BBQ Sauce & Melted Cheese. Crazy times!

Annie's Burger Shack, Lace Market, Nottingham

There was no way I wasn't including Annie's into this. The number one spot for burgers in the Midlands surely? I reviewed the original Annie's when it was still hidden in the Navigation pub and although I've been to the new place more than a couple of times, I just haven't managed to get it onto Gingey Bites yet. Rest assured, toppings are weird and wacky, the service is great and the queues are worth it! If you haven't been, you need to.

So that's it, my best of the bunch in the East Midlands - wherever you go on National Burger Day - forget the calories and enjoy the ride. Sometimes you just can't beat a bloody good burger!

  1. My fave has to be Crafty at the moment! It's tough though. Can't wait for Burger Battle x

    1. I'm gutted I can't make the burger battle!! It'll be a tough call between Crafty and The Paget for sure!!

  2. Its only 11.30 in the morning, I'm drooling and my tummy is rumbling over these. Can't beat a good burger and these all look fab.

  3. Tomorrow is national burger day?! Why didn't you say!!! I've been to Annie's in Nottingham a fair few times and can vouch for its deliciousness :P

  4. I think there should be a Weekly Burger Day never mind just a 'national' one. Ah well.. back to salad for lunch tomorrow!

  5. I am considering holding a burger party for my OH's birthday - so lots of inspiration here.

    1. That's a great idea for a birthday party! You could do mini sliders!
