Steak with Garlic & Herb Butter

It's been steak saturday in my house today. I usually serve my steak with chimmi churri and a big salad or perhaps a peppercorn sauce but today I opted to go French. There was a reason for this - I've teamed up with Inntravel for their #FlavourFromFrance campaign. They are a Yorkshire based travel company who specialise in slow holidays. How great does a 'slow holiday' sound? Off the beaten track adventures organised for you but with none of the stresses of tour groups & schedules so you can explore at your own pace.

Experience: Tales from a Supper Club

Who knows what a supper club is? I believe they began in New York and are now getting increasingly popular here in the UK, especially (of course) in London. So - in a nutshell - a supper club is a dinner party made up of strangers in someone's home. Think Come Dine with Me with (hopefully) better food, better company and no film crew.

Last weekend Emily and I headed over to Stourbridge to attend one of the newest supper clubs on the block - run by Thai cookery super star Carole the lady behind Brum's no ping no bling

Slow Cooker Pork With Star Anise & Orange

I can't claim this recipe as my own but I can claim that I ate it all up. Living alone, I sometimes find it hard to eat properly - cooking for one can seem like too much effort but I'm not a pot noodle or ready meal type of girl so cooking up big pots of food to eat over a few days seems to be the way forward. This recipe was for four although I polished it off over two days (piggybum). And with any stew - it definitely tasted better then next day!

Review: Meet Burger, Loughborough

I've been dying to try Meet Burger since it opened a few months back. As part of the group which owns the fabulous Peter Pizza in Loughborough (and soon a second one in Leicester), I had high hopes. As you'd expect if you know Peter (see my review here), their decor and styling is proper cool and Meet Burger is no exception.

Spicy Butternut Squash Soup

Sometimes all I really want is soup. Today, all I really wanted was soup. So I made some. However, I couldn't be bothered to brave the cold and visit the shops so I had to work with what I had (not a lot!) But I love that kind of cooking - a Sunday afternoon challenge to see what I can pull together and soup in particular is perfect for veg on the turn!

Radio 4's Food Programme & Lunch from Diana Henry's newest book

That's it - 2014 is done and dusted and what a year it was! Although for me it finished with some big life changes, as we step into 2015 I'm focussed and ready to move forward - so bring it on! On the blog front, Gingey Bites has gone from strength to strength (thank you to all my readers!) and the biggest highlight came in November when I was invited to talk on BBC Radio 4's Food Programme with Sheila Dillon. What an honour!

The topic was cookbooks and along with investigative food journalist Joanna Blythman and The Observer's food editor Allan Jenkins, I spent an enjoyable hour discussing the best books of 2014.  If you missed it, you can listen again here.
