Farndon Fields Farm Shop, Market Harborough

Yum
It's been ages since I last went to Fardon Fields Farm Shop in Market Harborough, a place I used to love visiting when I worked near by (old blog post here). My colleagues and I would pop in on our lunch breaks to shop and eat. These days I'm a bit further afield but at the moment, I'm doing some freelance work nearby so last week I used it as an opportunity to go in and take a look around.

Entrance to Farndon Fields Farm Shop

Farndon Fields is a family owned farm shop on the outskirts of the pretty Leicestershire town Market Harborough. What started out as a small barn shop selling produce from the farm back in the 1970's  is now a full blown farm shopping experience with amazing fresh produce, meat, dairy and restaurant. The ethos is local and as much as possible is sourced from within the local area. The vast majority of the fruit and vegetables on sale are from the farm itself (over 40 varieties!) and recently they've also started breeding rare-breed Tamworth pigs so whenever available, they also sell their own pork.

I just love a farm shop, the idea of filling my basket with produce from the local area and perusing shelf upon shelf of pretty, fresh vegetables. Farndon ticks those boxes perfectly with huge displays of fresh fruit, veg, eggs and cheese, deli and butchers counters just waiting to be visited. They are pretty renowned for their strawberries and I was lucky to be visiting at the right time to take advantage. These were so juicy and tasty, I ate most of my punnet in the car on the drive back to Bristol!

The thing I really love is that although Farndon Fields have expanded from fruit and vegetables into a much broader shopping experience, they have ensured that everything they sell, whether its meat, alcohol or gifts, is locally sourced if not made on site. Their gift section is exclusively stocked with items that are food related too.

Finally, since I used to visit on work lunch breaks, they've extended their restaurant offering and it's gorgeous in there, lots of wood and light. The menu focuses on fresh, seasonal dishes with lots of bowl food (like tapas) which are perfect for lunch with friends. When I was there I had the Leicestershire Rarebit and it was absolutely delicious! Take a look at their menus here.
