Filipino BBQ at the Melbourne Noodle Night Market

The Night Noodle Market is something which I think is pretty well known to foodies around Australia. It’s essentially a travelling street food event which moves around the country featuring live music, drinks and of course, amazing Asian cuisine from hawker style stalls.

The Melbourne Night Noodle Market was in town from the 10th to the 27th of November and was just one of the events happening in the city to mark Good Food Month. As you can imagine I was pretty excited when I found out about this. Not only do I LOVE street food but I also love Asian food.

Most of the stalls were representing local businesses from around the city, some restaurants, some street food traders. The range of food on offer was great and covered much of Asia – everything from Korean fried chicken to Vietnamese banh-mi to Chinese dan dan noodles, Japanese gyoza and Filipino BBQ.

We ate some really great food including amazing roast pork belly bao from Wonderbao, filipino chicken wings glazed in soy, five spice and garlic from Hoy Pinoy and chocolate cointreau creme brûlée with fairy floss with The Brulee Cart.

Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr park is a cool place, worth a visit even when there are no events on. It rises up over a big hill, starting at the side of the Yarra river in an area which looks uncannily like London’s South Bank in places. Walk up the hill and you’ll marvel at the fantastic views of the city. For the night market, this was a dream. The night skyline was incredible, viewed from comfy seating with a beer in one hand and a chicken wing in the other!

As you can imagine, we loved our time at the Night Noodle Market. I would recommend anyone on their travels to attend if and when one comes up nearby. They operate as ‘cashless’ (i.e. all card payments) to help keep the queues in check but honestly, be chilled, take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and the food. You will have to queue but it’s worth it.
